The Canton Rotary Club started the New Year off with a report on a polio survivor from India who we were able to help start his own business.  This was a joint project of several Rotary Clubs in District 6400: Windsor Roseland, Adrian Morning, Plymouth, Livonia, and Canton.  Asar is shown above driving his rickshaw with his first passenger.

On December 9th the Canton Rotary Club gathered at the home of Mike and Lisa Kennedy for a Christmas Party.
On Friday, December 6th, a few members from our Club transported the contents of our first Kitchen Box to the new apartment of our first recipient.  Shown here is Bill Tesen with a trunk full of kitchen supplies.
On December 5th several members met at Lisa's home to pack up boxes of kitchen supplies to donate to Journey To Housing.  Journey To Housing is one of our current District Grant Projects.  Our Club contributed half and District 6400 contributed half for a total of $5,000 which we spent on kitchen supplies and family night supplies for 10 families that are being sponsored by Journey To Housing, an affiliate of St. Vincent de Paul.
On November 25th the Canton Rotary Club celebrated Thanksgiving with a potluck traditional Thanksgiving Dinner.  We met at the Cherry Hill School on Ridge Road at Cherry Hill in Canton.  Each member brought a dish to pass.  Our food for the day included a fresh roasted turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, yams, cranberry sauce, and many desserts including chocolate cream pie, apple pie, pecan pie, and several more.  This is an annual tradition of our Club.  Members, their families, and guests are invited each year.  This year, unfortunately, we did not get any pictures.  We hope that more guests will join us next year, and I promise to remember to take pictures.  In the meantime, here is a link to pictures from our November 2009 Thanksgiving Celebration.  https://content.clubrunner.ca/616/Photo/List?AlbumId=4e07f074-d2c5-4487-9f21-b4bd563d2bc1
On Saturday, November 16th, members from the Canton Rotary Club volunteered to ring the bell for the Salvation Army Red Kettle.  Despite the cold weather, everyone enjoyed the day, and the Salvation Army was the beneficiary of our volunteer work.
Today, our newest member, Doug Morison, was installed.  Above Doug is pictured in the center with President Lisa Kennedy, Sponsor Bill Simmerer, District Governor John Chambers, and District Membership Chairman Steve Ahles.  We are excited to have you with us in Rotary, Doug, and look forward to getting to know you better and to sharing Rotary with you.

Today Cheryl Stec and Jennifer Gerard from the Canton Recreation Department Visited the Club.  They are involved in the Therapeutic Recreation Program including Camp ABLE and Camp Leisure Club designed for youth with disabilities.
Today Renee McKarge and Lorraine Zaksek from Journey to Housing visited the Club and spoke to us about the organization and about our upcoming District Grant Project where we will help Journey to Housing as they resettle working homeless families into permanent housing.
Today our meeting was cancelled to facilitate members' attendance at our District 6400 Annual District Governor Golf Outing.  The money raised from this event is used for District 6400 Rotary Club International Projects.  Last year the Windsor-Roseland Rotary Club applied for a grant for a bore-hole well near Chennai, India, from this event.  See September 23rd's story for more information on this project.  This year three of our members joined in the festivities of the day - Lisa Kennedy, Dean Clemons, and Ken Beardsley.  Thank you members for participating in this worthwhile activity.
Today we installed The Canton Rotary Club's first Corporate Member, the Wayne Westland Community School District represented by Dr. Andrae Townsel as the Primary Designee.

Today we celebrated the anniversary of the attacks of September 11, 2001, by manning a booth at the Summit on the Park highlighting all of the volunteer activities that are available in Canton Township.  There were many civic organizations present, and we enjoyed talking to members of the public that came out for the evening, as well as getting to know some of the members of other civic organizations who were present for the evening.  Thanks to Derek Locke who came out on this rainy evening to display information from Shelter Box, an international charitable organization who partners with Rotary to supply emergency shelter in times of crisis.

Today our District Governor, John Chambers, visited our Club and brought us up to date on District 6400 happenings.

We are pleased to have Monica Levin as our guest speaker today.
This evening we met to thank our Liberty Fest Volunteers for their help at our Beverage Tent, and to collect school supplies for the Salvation Army Back 2 School Drive.

Today we welcomed our speaker Paula Talbot from the Windsor-Roseland Rotary Club.  Paula talked about our Rotary 4-Way Test and the project that her Club took on to help people fighting addiction in her community and surrounding communities.

Today we welcomed local entrepreneur and author Wesley Berry who spoke to our Club about his life and his new book Big Things Have Small Beginnings.  Wes is currently the host of The People's Voice, a weekly radio talk show that features both controversial and unifying topics.  Wes started his career as a teenager working at his family's floral shop.  But that was just a start to a long life of learning and success!

Today we installed Barry Burnham as our newest member.  We also installed our Club Officers and Directors, and the Canton Rotary Foundation Officers and Directors.  Thank you to District Governor John Chambers who officiated at the installations, and who also helped us dedicate our two new banners.
Today Aruna and Shiva Koushik from the Windsor-Roseland Rotary Club visited us.  Aruna spoke to us about Cultural Diversity.  Aruna is our Rotary District Governor Nominee for 2021/2022.  She is passionate about polio and supporting her community.  Welcome Aruna!
